Holsworthy Federation Governing Board
There is one Governing Board for the schools within the Holsworthy Federation.
The Governing Board has three core functions:
1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
2. Holding the Executive Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the
Federation Schools and their pupils; and
3. Overseeing the financial performance of the schools and making sure that money is well
The Governors recognise that the Executive Headteacher is responsible for the implementation of policy, day-to-day management of the federation schools and the implementation of the curriculum.
The Chair of Governors is Mr Lee Rose. The Vice Chairs are Mrs Kate Scrivener and Mr Ken Watson. The Governing Board meets once every half term; between these meetings Governors visit the schools and focus on their core functions through the work of the committees. Governors visit the school regularly as part of their role in monitoring of the School Improvement Plans. Feedback on all visits is given to the full Governing Board at meetings and this allows all Governors to be kept informed about progress, and also to be aware of any concerns that need to be addressed.
There are 17 positions on the governing Board: the Executive Headteacher and one staff Governor, four foundation Governors, two parent Governors, one LEA Governor and eight co-opted Governors. The Governing Board is supported by a Clerk.
Governors are appointed or elected as follows:
The Staff Governor is elected by the staff. The Foundation Governors are appointed by the Exeter Diocesan Board of Education (2) and by the Holsworthy Co-Operative Learning Trust (2). The Parent Governors are elected by the parents. Co-opted governors are appointed by the full governing Board.
The Governing Board may also appoint associate members.
The Full Governing Board is supported by two committees, both with delegated power; the Resources Committee and the Standards and Curriculum Committee. The Resources Committee is responsible for matters connected to finance, including monitoring the use of pupil premium funding, premises, health and safety, personnel and our links with the local community. The Standards and Curriculum Committee monitor and evaluate teaching and learning, safeguarding, pupil welfare, standards and behaviour, provision for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Both committees report to the full Governing Board every half term.
In addition there is a Pay and Performance committee, which meets three times a year and a Headteacher appraisal panel, which also meets twice a year. Both have delegated powers.
