This week we joined with the other primary schools in the federation to sing carols at Holsworthy cattle market. Visitors to the market were treated to renditions of Away in a Manger, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and We Wish you a Merry Christmas. Each school also sang some festive songs from their own Christmas productions.

Toddler Group Dinosaur Morning
This half term The Black Torrington Toddler Group visited class 1 for a dinosaur morning. We all enjoyed playing in the tuff spot tray with dinosaurs, sand and soil!! We sorted mini dinosaurs into colours and types and also enjoyed some dinosaur stories. The pupils of class 1 had made a touch and feel dinosaur book, suitable for a younger child. This formed part of their DT work this term and they enjoyed the opportunity to share it with their young friends.
We also made dinosaur masks and a large floor puzzle. Everyone enjoyed the morning and it was great to see so many of our younger villagers busy in class.
Charity of the Year-SIAB
Simon Lucas, the founder of School in a Bag visited our school with his colleague Zoe. He talked in depth to both classes about his charity and showed a short film about his work. The children were able to see the impact that receiving a bag had made in some developing countries. The bags are tailored to the needs of the children who are given them, some include sandals, others include a rain poncho. it was a really interesting presentation and certainly inspired us to raise as much money as we could for the charity.
We have been busy over the past two weeks taking part in a number of sporting events within the Learning Community. First we travelled in our new federation minibus to Bradford School to take part in some athletics events run by HCC and their sports leaders.
Then on Wednesday class 2 went to Clawton school to take part in a cross country run. The children ran in yr3/4 groups and yr5/6 groups. Everyone did really well and were fantastic ambassadors for our school. It was all a bit muddy but great fun. Well done class 2!

Macmillan Coffee Morning
Black Torrington Toddler Group organised a coffee morning to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Trust. All the staff and pupils visited for part of the morning, enjoying cakes and drinks and spent some time playing with the younger members of the village community. We also wrote our names on strips of paper and joined them together to make a paper chain. Our donations helped to raise a total of 120 pounds for the charity.
