Summer Term 2019

Forest School

Class 1 had the wonderful opportunity to visit Cookworthy Forest for a Forest School day. They had a fantastic time den building, jumping in muddy puddles and making popcorn on a campfire.

Bude Youth Theatre

Class Two were joined by members of the Bude Youth Theatre, for a workshop based around “Hidden Depths”, a play they later went to see. The children enjoyed acting out some of the different stories set around the building of the Bude canal and learnt some of the songs from the play. The following week they visited Budehaven School for a theatre performance of “Hidden Depths”.

Dentist visit

We welcomed the school dentist in to school. She spoke to each class about teeth cleaning and then they had the opportunity to use disclosure tablets after they had cleaned their teeth to indicate how well they had done. The result was a morning of purple mouths!

The summer term is extra busy the children are experiencing Wild Tribe once a week where they learn about nature and the benefits of being outside. Some children are visiting the Care Farm, where they are helping clean out and feed the animals.

Class 2 are having 10 swimming sessions locally at Ruby Oak Park.

School Council

To raise money for our Charity of the Year – Bramble Children’s Ward RD and E Exeter – the School Council invited the children to take part in a sponsored spell.

Decorated flower pot competition

We have decided to have a decorated flower pot competition. Each child had a small pot sent home to be decorated around the theme of ‘Our World.’ The PTFA will be providing sunflower seeds which we are then going to plant and grow at school.  Many Thanks to the PTFA for providing a lovely post Easter coffee afternoon on Wednesday, the children enjoyed their hot cross buns and there were many entries in the decorate a pot competition, well done to the winners, Roxy and Hattie.

Year 3/4 residential

Children from years 3 and 4 recently joined with children from Bradford and Bridgerule schools for a one day visit to Bracken Tor in Okehampton, here they experienced rock climbing and archery.

We entered a team of children from Black Torrington and Bradford schools in the Holsworthy High Five Netball league which involves 10 teams from around the area. This has now finished with our fantastic team winning every match, so they have been crowned league champions, we are very proud of the all.

Looking forward to the rest of this term, we have entered a team of Year 3/4 and 5/6 children into the Halwill Football Tournament in June, the children are taking their SATS tests, the older children will be attending residential trips, there will be combined sports day with Bradford and Bridgerule children, another science day, a multi skills event for class 1 and a cricket festival for class 2!  We will then be getting ready to say a fond farewell to our Year 6 children as they leave us in July ready for the next exciting stage of their lives.
